IT'S BEEN ON MY MIND....

For years I have been very conscious of the foods I feed my family, I have tried and failed at times to keep away from packaged, processed foods, but sometimes the convenience and time-saving wins out.

I have given a lot of thought over the last couple of weeks about how I would like to go 1 week without any processed foods, making absolutely everything from scratch, not just some of it. Of course I need a plan for me to do this as I still work 3 part-time jobs and have lots of other school and sporting commitments that I have to factor in to make this work.

At the end of the week I will know what worked and what didn't and hopefully be able to continue with this with a firm plan intact.

Today, the kids are all back at school, I'm catching up on all the things I didn't get done while they've been on holidays and I will be sorting through recipes and making that all important plan.

I already make:

some bread
pasta
pasta sauce
sausage rolls
biscuits
cakes
pancakes
dinner every night is from scratch

I should say, I'm not going to churn butter, mill flour or make cheese and I'm sure there are plenty of things I will use already gathered, grinded or made, but I will:

make yoghurt from scratch
all of our bread
crumpets
tortillas
muesli
muesli bars
pies
pasties
french onion soup
nuggets
pesto
corn chips
cordial
pastry
deserts

there will be a lot more to add to this list, this is what I came up with off the top of my head.

  1. Great post! We make and grow almost all of our food from scratch. I'm on yogurt duty this month, so I'll be making another batch this week. We also made a vow this year to not buy any bread. We've done real well so far except we do buy tortillas. I'd love to hear how you are doing with this.

  2. I'm right there with you, Sue. I make lots of what we eat from scratch, but it's easy to fall back on convenience foods when we get busy. I, too, have tried and failed to feed my family ALL nourishing foods. This is a great post. For now, I do what I can and try not to beat myself up too bad about my shortcomings (which are many). We're working toward the goal of having NO processed food in this house... but we aren't there yet.

I love receiving comments and do try my hardest to comment back, sometimes though, life gets in the way.
